WINDSHAPER

WindShape Systems – Cutting-Edge and Globally Unique Wind Testing Solutions

WindShape has developed a revolutionary technology in the field of aerodynamic testing and drone evaluation: the WindShaper. This system is the only one of its kind worldwide, offering unmatched capabilities for simulating complex atmospheric conditions in a laboratory environment. The entire platform is based on modular design and advanced control software, allowing unprecedented precision and flexibility.

WindShaper: Modular Wind Generator

The WindShaper is a wind testing system composed of a matrix of small fan units called “wind pixels”, each individually controllable.
  • Each module (25 x 25 cm) includes 9 wind pixels, with each pixel containing two counter-rotating fans.
  • Multiple modules can be combined into custom sizes to build wind walls.
  • This enables the generation of complex, 3D wind profiles such as gusts, turbulence, and shear layers.
  • Standard configurations can produce up to 16 m/s (60 km/h) of wind, or over 55 m/s (200 km/h) with a converging nozzle.
Unique features:
  • Highly customizable and scalable layout
  • Dynamic wind shaping across space and time
  • Compact and portable compared to traditional wind tunnels

WindControl: Advanced Control Software

WindControl is a web-based graphical interface that enables full control over the WindShaper modules.
  • Users can adjust wind speed and direction at the individual pixel level.
  • Python API is available for scripting, automation, and integration with third-party systems.
  • Enables time-varying and spatially-distributed flow programming.
This software is essential for customizing aerodynamic profiles and running repeatable experiments.

Specialized Testing Services

WindShape offers professional testing services that make use of the WindShaper’s unique capabilities:
  • Free-flight drone testing under varying wind profiles
  • Weather emulation, including rain, snow, and thermal variations
  • Propulsion system analysis
  • Aerodynamic force/moment measurements
  • High-speed flight simulations
These services are ideal for drone development, validation, certification, and performance optimization.

Customizable Configurations

WindShape offers various standard setups, with the option to customize dimensions and performance:
  • 3×3 modules (0.75 × 0.75 m) – Research and academic use
  • 6×3 modules (1.5 × 0.75 m) – Entry-level UAV testing
  • 8×8 modules (2 × 2 m) – Versatile general-purpose system
  • 12×12 modules (3 × 3 m) – Advanced drone testing under dynamic flight conditions
Systems can be tailored to meet specific requirements, making them suitable for R&D, industry, and education.
